These modules typically have a microprocessor that controls the position, velocity and acceleration of moving objects. It can control linear or rotary motion, single or multi-axis motion. They combine motion control with PLC‘s sequential control functions and are widely used in machine tools, assembly machinery and other applications.

The position control generally adopts closed-loop control and uses a servo motor as a driving device. If a stepping motor is used as the driving device, either open loop control or closed loop control can be used. The module uses the memory to store the given motion profile. The typical machine motion curve is shown in the figure. High speed v1 is used for fast feed, low speed v2 is used for actual cutting process, and P1 is the end point of motion. The module obtains the current position value from the position sensor and compares it with the set value. The result of the comparison is used to control the drive of the servo motor or stepper motor.

The pulse output module and positioning control module of the FX2N series are described below.

1. FX2N–1PG–E pulse output module

FX2N–1 PG–E has 7 operating modes for positioning control, one module controls one axis, and FX2N series PLC can connect 8 modules to control 8 separate axes. The output pulse frequency can be up to 100kHz, and the output can be pulsed, decremented and directional. It occupies 8 I/O points in the program and can be used for FX2N and FX2NC.

2. FX2N–10PG pulse output module

FX2N series PLC can connect 8 modules, the output pulse frequency can reach 1MHz, the minimum starting time is 1ms, there is optimal speed control and approximate S-type acceleration/deceleration control during positioning, and can receive 30kHz input generated by external pulse generator. Table operations make multipoint positioning programming easier. It occupies 8 I/O points in the program and can be used for FX2N and FX2NC.

3. FX2N–10GM and FX–20GM Positioning Controllers

The FX2N–10GM is a single-axis positioning unit. The FX–20GM is a two-axis positioning unit that can perform linear interpolation, circular interpolation, or independent dual-axis control. It can work independently and does not have to be connected to the PLC. With absolute position detection and manual pulse generator connection, the programming software with flow chart visualizes the programming.

The maximum output frequency is 200kHz, the FX–20GM is 100kHz when interpolated, and it takes up 8 input and output points in the program.

4. Programmable Cam Control Unit FX–1RM–SET

In mechanical control systems it is often necessary to turn an external load on or off by detecting the angular position, which was previously done with a mechanical cam switch. It has high requirements for machining accuracy and is prone to wear.

The programmable cam control unit FX–1RM–SET enables high-precision angular position detection. It can be set and monitored for action angles. Eight different programs can be stored in the EEPROM. The matching brushless angle sensor cable can be up to 100m long. Occupies 8 I/O points in the program. By connecting the transistor expansion module, you can get up to 48 ON/OFF outputs. It can be connected to the CC–Link network using the communication interface module
