Which output method do you need: PNP or NPN? How to distinguish between normally closed contacts and normally open contacts? We will explain to you.

PNP output (+24V DC source output)

PNP output (+24V DC source output): The load is connected to the switch output and the common ground (-). This type of output is widely used in Europe and North America.

NPN output (0V DC down output)

NPN output (0V DC falling output): The load is connected to the switch output and reference point (+). This type of output is widely used in Asia.

Normally open contact (NO)

NO = normally open = normally open contact

The sensor is “on” when it recognizes the target. This principle is most widely used in automation technology.

Normally closed contact (NC)

NC = normally closed = normally closed contact

The sensor “disconnects” when it recognizes the target.

Complementary contact (NO + NC)

NO + NC = complementary

The sensor provides two signals. When the target is recognized, the two outputs are switched.
